Our respected Sheikh, Idriss Mahmaud, is of the Quadriya and Chistiya order. He came to know about the existence of the Spiritual Path through many Sheikhs. He had the opportunity to serve a famous Sufi Master, Peer Aboobakar Shah (R.A), who ultimately conferred upon him the title of Kalifa.
During his stay in Pakistan, where he studied for a Degree and a Diploma in Diplomatic Studies, he became very closely connected with Hazrat Maulana Shah Ahmed Noorani Siddiqui (R.A) and from him; he had the opportunity of learning a lot about Tasawuf and other Islamic tenets.
On his return to Mauritius, he went to Zambia as Education Officer and in 1975, he toured the world where he lectured on Islamic Ideology, Spirituality and Sufism. Back to Mauritius, he met Sheikh Moosa Kureeman (R.A), who was a great Sufi Master. He received his Khirka (permission) from his Sheikh Peer Abdul Rahman Mungur (R.A), who in turn was a disciple and a successor of Peer Abdul Rahman Dinoo (R.A). The silsila was brought from the Indian sub-continent by Sheikh Mohammad Ismael Peer Baksh (R.A), who in his divine wisdom has chosen right people for this spiritual mission.
